20 PLAYERS LIST SHORTLISTED BY BCCI FOR THE 2023 ICC MEN’S CRICKET WORLD CUP

20 PLAYERS LIST SHORTLISTED BY BCCI FOR THE 2023 ICC MEN’S CRICKET WORLD CUP

The Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI), on Sunday, conducted a review meeting where it announced that 20 players have been shortlisted for the upcoming 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.

A BCCI official has termed it as a fruitful meeting where past performance and future planning were given equal importance.

The emphasis has also been given to workload management and coordination will also take place amongst the respective IPL franchises

The 20 players list shortlisted by BCCI for the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup is yet to announce the list.

We at Crick Academy will form a ‘most likely’ list and see if we can match their 20 players list shortlisted by BCCI for the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.

THE BEST LINEUP FOR THE 2023 ICC MEN’S CRICKET WORLD CUP

For starters, the team will definitely be headed by Rohit Sharma and coach Rahul Dravid. KL Rahul whom we have seen as the vice-captain in the recent past has lost his position to Hardik Pandya.

As much as we would love to see the trio of Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli, we suppose that won’t be the case. By the looks of it, the management has probably decided to let go of Dhawan and will probably rope in other batsmen.

Shubman Gill has so far looked as the best option to replace Shikhar Dhawan but he too has a competitor. Ishan Kishan’s recent record-breaking antics against Bangladesh might just have made him seal this deal.

KL Rahul will most likely be used as a floater, in the middle order.

Rohit Sharma might not have impressed in recent years but it would be difficult to see someone ahead of him.
Virat Kohli, having ended his century drought, is a clear number three for India.

Shreyas Iyer in the middle order is a no-brainer. He is India’s highest run scorer in ODIs in 2022. The Mumbai batter will play a key role in the team.

Despite not impressing in the ODIs, Suryakumar Yadav will be a good fit in the middle order. The current number one T20 batter will secure his place due to his T20i antics this year.

RISHABH PANT’S AVAILABILTY CREATES A DILEMMA

Coming to wicketkeepers, the team will go with Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant. Pant’s availability also depends on his recovery from his horrific car accident last week. Presumably, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, and Axar Patel will retain their spots.

The bowling department will be spearheaded by Jasprit Bumrah, Mohd. Shami and Bhuvaneswar Kumar. Arshdeep Singh has looked good in his stint over the last year and will be picked for the tournament.

The spin duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal are front-runners to be selected. However, it will be difficult to pick one out of Mohd. Siraj and Umran Malik.

FINAL PREDICTED LIST OF PLAYERS FOR THE WORLD CUP

So, here is the final 20 players list shortlisted by BCCI for the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.

BCCI UPDATES REGARDING SELECTION CRITERIA

The BCCI also mentioned that emerging players will have to play domestic cricket to be eligible for selection.
The Yo-Yo test and DEXA test will now be a part of the selection criteria.

For those who are unaware, the DEXA test is also called a bone density test. It uses x-ray technology which lets you know of any fracture possible. Bone density comes into play here.

On the other hand, the Yo-Yo test is a running fitness test. Two cones are placed and once a beep is sounded a player has to reach the end of the second cone before the next beep. Then the player has to return to the first cone before the third beep. This entire process marks a single shuttle. With the increases in shuttles, the duration decreases and that is how the test takes place.

It will be interesting to see if we could match with the actual shortlisted list by BCCI. However, all we care about is for the team to do well.

And as quoted by Hardik Pandya, “The biggest new year resolution is to win the World Cup”.
