Shaheen Shah Afridi, this young left-handed Pakistani fast bowler is in trending in the cricketing fraternity. This 18-year-old lad was born on 6 April 2000 at Landi Kotal, Khyber Agency and belongs to Zakha Khel Afridi tribe of the Pashtuns. In their family, Shaheen Afridi is the youngest out of the seven brothers.
His brother Riaz Afridi who has been a part of the Pakistan team in a Solitary match introduced Shaheen to competitive cricket at FATA U-16 trials in 2015. His amazing performance in the trials helped him to get selected for U-16 Tour of Australia in November 2015.
Though being a bowler, his ability to hit big shots makes him believe that he could contribute for the team as an all-rounder. Shaheen’s good performances in the Australia tour and other domestic matches made the selectors include him in the Under-19 Squad for the 206 Asia Cup.
With 3 wickets of 27runs in the first match of U-19 Asia Cup, Afridi proved his selection for the team worth it.
As days passed he started improving more and more. And on September 2017 he signed a two year contract with a Bangladesh Premier League Franchise, Dhaka Dynamites. On the same year in September Afridi took 8 wickets for 39 runs in his First Class Debut. Till date in his 2 first class matches he has taken 11 wickets for 190 runs with an bowling average of 17.27.
In December 2017, Afridi became the leading wicket taker for Pakistan with 12 wickets in the Under 19 World Cup 2018 and was named as the Rising Star of the Squad by ICC. He made his T20 debut in the 2018 Edition of Pakistan Cricket League on 23rdFebruary for the Lahore Qualanders.
He came into limelight in the match against the Multan Sultans where he took 5 wickets for by conceding a mere 4 runs which made his team finish on the winning side of the game by 6 wickets.
Finally on March 2018, he was selected in the Pakistan’s T20 International Squad for the West Indies Tour and played his debut match for Pakistan on 3 April 2018.
With so much talent at this tender age he needs a proper guidance and training to become one of the greatest fast bowling spearheads the world has ever seen. We also hope he breaks into the list of best bowlers of the world in the near future.
