Subhman Gill, this emerging Indian cricketer has been a star for the Indian Under-19 team during the Under 19 World Cup 2018. His amazing knocks during the World Cup has assured the selectors of Indian Team to keep an eye on him.
This 18 year old lad was born on 8th September 1999 at Fazilka, Punjab,India. He belongs to a agricultural family. His father being a cricket enthusiast had a desire to see his son playing for the country.
Gill’s cricketing career started in the agricultural land at the age of 3 under the guidance of his father (LAKHWINDER SINGH). His father used to ask the workers in the farm to bowl helping him to practice his batting. This basic training helped him a lot to make a debut in the Indian Under-19 team.
As days passed he started improving and developing his skills and his father decided to move to Mohali and took a house in rent near PCA Stadium. So that he can get a better coaching at Mohali.
This right handed batsman made his debut for Punjab in the 2016-2017 Vijay Hazare Trophy. His splendid batting impressed his team members and coaches a lot. His brilliant knock of 351 runs in Punjab Inter district Under -16 tournament helped him come to limelight. Gill made his first class debut for Punjab in 2017-2018 Ranji Trophy. With an astonishing innings in a match, he became the 4th batsman for Punjab to hit a First Class Century in Ranji Trophy. He was awarded with the best junior player award by BCCI and got the opportunity to share stage with the cricketing icon Virat Kohli.
These awesome innings made him more confident about his game and in December 2017 he got the result of all his hard work. Subhman Gill was addressed as the Vice-Captain of India Under-19 team. As the Vice-Captain of the team he played his role completely throughout the tournament and contributed runs for the team whenever it was necessary. His contribution for the team involved 4 half-centuries in 5 innings. He was also the leading run scorer for India in the tournament with 372 runs and was named as the Player of the Tournament. This tournament became the tuning point of his life and people started praising his game.
Because of his good performance throughout the tournament his name was raised for the auction in Indian Premier League 2018. Out of all the 8 teams, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) made the last bid for Gill and bought him for 1.8 Crore.
Continuing his form the right handed batsman played some splendid innings for the team and helped the team win some of the important matches. Gill scored a total of 203 in the whole tournament (IPL 2018) which involved a match winning innings of 57 runs on 36 balls ( 6 fours and 2 sixes) against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). His name was also listed as one of the emerging player of VIVO IPL 2018.
Overall it was an awesome season of IPL for Subhman Gill under the coaching of one of the all time famous All rounder, Jacques Kallis. Within this season of IPL his game and his temperament has been praised by many of the cricket legends.
